The thesis focuses on the intersection of the problematic of ‘memory’ and ‘identity’, using as a field of research the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Through this investigation, I attempt to understand what has happened to it over the last two millennia, and define the mo-ments which expose the intractable problem of a definition of a Greek identity, that in its whole includes tensions that reveal deeply rooted conflicts and dichotomies. Therefore, the Parthenon takes the form of a field of battle, where the past remains open and contestable.
