Weak and Monumental (Μnemeiosis tou adynamou), 2014

Aristide Antonas

The ‘Weak and Monumental’ is a project undertaken in Athens after the city’s bankruptcy. It deals with the condition of the city centre. The modern ruins that form the scenography of the blocks and the ancient ones that are buried under the city floor can be visitable again through different architectures of careful subtraction; intervening to the anyway destroyed private realm could be a public task. Architecture could have as a role to re-elaborate the public sphere as a new, different urban scene since in the case of Athens city centre it deals with an empty field.
