The ‘Dionysos’ Restaurant on the Philopappus Hill

In November 1959, the late lamented architect/planner Prokopis Vasileiadis had himself engaged on a contract with the Housing Service of the then Ministry of Public Works in order to work in the department concerned with urban planning, of which he was in charge. This had been preceded by my involvement, for three years and more, in the reconstruction of Santorini after the devastating earthquake of 1956, a project which was under my supervision. During the course of this, Vasileiadis had got to know me at first hand and, in spite of the differences in our ages, was particularly friendly towards me.
